We exist because we exist
- Oscar Shell: Is the world a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise?
- Dad: Excuse me?
- Oscar Shell: It's just that why does the earth stay in place instead of falling trough the universe?
- Dad: Is this Oscar i'm tucking in? Has an alien stolen his brain for experimentation?
- Oscar Shell: We don't believe in aliens.
- Dad: The earth does fall down trough the universe. You know that, buddy. It's constantly falling toward the sun. That's what it means to orbit.
- Oscar Shell: Obviously, but why is there gravity? What's the reason?
- Dad: Who said there had to be a reason?
- Oscar Shell: No one did, exactly.
- Dad: My question was rhetorical.
- Oscar Shell: What's that mean?
- Dad: It means i wasn't asking it for an answer, but to make a point.
- Oscar Shell: What point?
- Dad: That there doesn't have to be a reason.
- Oscar Shell: But if there isn't a reason, then why does the universe exist at all?
- Dad: Because of sympathetic conditions.
- Oscar Shell: So then why am i your son?
- Dad: Because mum and i made love and one of my sperm fertilized one of her eggs.
- Oscar Shell: Excuse me while i regurgitate.
- Dad: Don't act your age.
- Oscar Shell: Well, what i don't get is why do we exist? I don't mean how, but why.
- Dad: We exist because we exist.
- Oscar Shell: What the?
- Dad: We could imagine all sorts of universes unlike this one, but this is the one that happened.

Chiquitita, tell me what’s wrong
You’re enchained by your own sorrow
In your eyes there is no hope for tomorrow
How I hate to see you like this
There is no way you can deny it
I can see that you’re oh so sad, so quiet
Chiquitita, tell me the truth
I’m a shoulder you can cry on
Your best friend, I’m the one you must rely on
You were always sure of yourself
Now I see you’ve broken a feather
I hope we can patch it up together
Chiquitita, you and I know
How the heartaches come and they go and the scars they’re leaving
You’ll be dancing once again and the pain will end
You will have no time for grieving
Chiquitita, you and I cry
But the sun is still in the sky and shining above you
Let me hear you sing once more like you did before
Sing a new song, Chiquitita
Try once more like you did before
Sing a new song, Chiquitita
So the walls came tumbling down
And your love’s a blown out candle
All is gone and it seems too hard to handle
Chiquitita, tell me the truth
There is no way you can deny it
I see that you’re oh so sad, so quiet
Chiquitita, you and I know
How the heartaches come and they go and the scars they’re leaving
You’ll be dancing once again and the pain will end
You will have no time for grieving
Chiquitita, you and I cry
But the sun is still in the sky and shining above you
Let me hear you sing once more like you did before
Sing a new song, Chiquitita
Try once more like you did before
Sing a new song, Chiquitita
Try once more like you did before
Sing a new song, Chiquitita
-ABBA, Chiquitita
by Christina Georgina Rossetti (1830-1894)
When I am dead, my dearest,
Sing no sad songs for me;
Plant thou no roses at my head,
Nor shady cypress tree:
Be the green grass above me
With showers and dewdrops wet;
And if thou wilt, remember,
And if thou wilt, forget.
I shall not see the shadows,
I shall not feel the rain;
I shall not hear the nightingale
Sing on, as if in pain:
And dreaming through the twilight
That doth not rise nor set,
Haply I may remember,
And haply may forget.

and the night is enormous.
But I look up:
the stars write.
Unknowing I understand:
I too am written,
and at this very moment
someone spells me out."
Magic Moments
Rain, unmixed with oblivion,Filled my eye.
I walked
Upon images of God in the water
In my mouth- the sky.

One's real life is often the life that one does not lead.
